Blessed Albertina Berkenbrock
I was born in the year 1919 in Brazil. I grew up in a very religious family. They taught me how to pray and I became very strong in the practice of my faith. In fact, I was considered a role model to my peers and even adults admired me. I went to play with the poorest children and shared my bread with them. At home, I became friends with the children of an employee of my father. His name was Maneco. I gave food not only to his children, but also to him. Since, he was of African origin and racism was still a social issue, my gentle attitude was at least remarkable. Yet, he repaid me in a very bad way. One day he lured me to a quiet place and tried to rape me. However, he could not do anything, because I fought firmly against him to protect my chastity and dedication to God in purity. Feeling defeated by a young girl, he used his strength to cut my throat with a knife. Thus, I died at the age of 13.
