Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati
I was born in Italy, in 1901. My mother was an artist while my father founded the Italian newspaper La Stampa. I developed two habits while growing up: going to Mass and praying the Rosary daily. I had a great concern for the poor and was part of various youth groups. I was known for my intelligence and for my devotion, but was also considered to be a joyful and faithful companion. I became a mining engineer by profession. As for my political beliefs, I was strongly against fascism, and joined protests against the regime in my country. I also joined the Saint Vincent de Paul Society and spent hours visiting and helping poor and sick people. When I was 24 years old, I fell ill with polio. My last words to my family and friends were the names of people who still needed assistance. I died on 4th of July, 1925.
