Saint Elizabeth Seton

I was born to rich parents in New York City in 1774. My mother died when I was three years old. My father taught me how to care for others less fortunate. I fell in love with William Seton and married him in 1794. We had five children, but William died and left us without an income. My relatives refused to help me because I had chosen to become Catholic. In 1808 I moved with my children to Maryland. There I founded a school for the poor and other women joined me. This was the beginning of the Catholic school system of the USA. Many other convents followed. I died in 1821 at the age of 46.
