Saint Faustina Kowalska

I was born in 1905 in a small Polish town as Helena Kowalska. My family was poor. I left school after the third grade and never learned how to write or read very well. I dreamed of becoming a nun. When I was 19, I went to Warsaw to enter a convent. I tried to enter many convents in the city, but they refused me because of my lack of education. Thankfully, mother superior of the Servants of Our Lady of Mercy gave me an opportunity to work in the convent on jobs that do not require an education, cooking, gardening and housekeeping. Jesus wanted me to spread devotion to his divine mercy and to help people know how merciful God is. At the advice of my spiritual director I kept a diary which became quite famous.
