Saint Lidwina of Schiedam

I was born in Holland, currently the Netherlands, in 1380. My father was a poor labourer. Since an early age, I showed a devotion to the Blessed Virgin. On another note, I truly enjoyed ice-skating. At the age of 14, I was injured during an ice-skating accident. I broke my rib, and because of the following infection, I became paralysed and suffered for decades on my sickbed. I spent my time praying, meditating and offering the pain to God. During this time, I developed a devotion to the Eucharist. I had visions in which I was shown Heaven and Purgatory or visited by saints. For two decades, my only food was the Eucharist. I was blind for the last seven years. I died in 1433.
