Saint Vitus

I was born in Sicily and lived during the joint reign of two Roman Emperors. It was a dangerous time for Christians due to fierce persecutions. My father was a Sicilian senator named Hylas. My family adhered to the pagan Roman gods, but I was converted to Christianity, thanks to the example of my nurse and my father's servant. My father very much disliked my being a Christian, and tried to change my mind. When he did not succed in doing so, he started to make plans to kill his own son. I was martyred around the age of 12.
