Saint David the King
I am the son of Jesse and was born in the Holy Land. In my youth I was a shepherd. I lived constantly in the shadow of my brothers. In the war against the Philistines, I killed Goliath, a giant and veteran warrior. I was victorious because I trusted not in myself but in God for victory. Later I had to flee from the vengeful king Saul. Later I became the King of Israel and engaged in constant warfare to protect my kingdom. I was a great military conqueror but I couldn’t conquer myself. I committed adultery with Bathsheba and had her husband treacherously killed in war to cover up my wrong. I was the father of Solomon, one of the greatest kings of Israel, and of Absalom whose rebellion brought bloodshed and grief. I left an example of the passionate love of God and dozens of psalms in the Bible. I died in Jerusalem.
