Saint George

I was born in 256 in Cappadocia, an area in what is now Turkey. My parents were Christians. I became a Roman soldier, and quickly rose through the army ranks. However, Emperor Diocletian began a violent campaign against Christians. I could not condone this persecution and resigned my position in the army. This angered Diocletian and I was imprisoned and tortured. I refused to deny my faith. As a result I was dragged through the streets and beheaded.
