Saint Jacinta Marto
I was born in 1910 in a small town in Portugal called Fátima. My family were farmers and lived in very poor conditions. When I was only nine years old, our Blessed Mother Mary appeared to me, my brother and our cousin Lucia. In total, there were six apparitions on the 13th day of each month, from May to October 1917. Mother Mary told us to pray the Rosary every day and to pray especially for the conversion of sinners. Many people did not believe our experience, and even tried to dissuade us from telling our story. Yet, eventually there was more support for what we told them. The meetings with Mother Mary gave me a great taste for prayer, a desire to be with Jesus at every moment. I prayed a lot, until I fell deadly ill. I insisted on receiving Holy Communion just before I died.
