Saint John Henry Newman
I was born in the year 1801, in England and received my education at Ealing and Trinity College in Oxford. I became an Anglican priest at the age of 23 and was strongly anti-Catholic. I was part of the Oxford movement, searching for the original sources of the faith. As I continued my studies, I began to be influenced by early Catholic writers. My own writings grew more in sympathy with Catholicism and I was forced to resign from my position in the Anglican Church. I lived in seclusion, reading, studying, and praying. After four years, I became a Catholic and only one year later, I was ordained a Catholic priest. I decided to join the Oratorians and later founded the London Oratory. I was declared a cardinal in 1879 and died eleven years later.
