Saint Joselito Sánchez
I was born in 1913 in Sahuayo, Mexico. I attended school in my hometown and later in Guadalajara. In 1926, in my country the Cristero war broke out. My brothers joined the military, but they did not allow me to join them. But through my persistence, I managed to become the flagbearer of the troop. I was nicknamed Tarcisius, after the saint. During the daytime I went to my Catechism classes and was involved in parish activities. It put my life at risk, because public worship was prohibited. I devoted my life to Jesus through daily rosary and other prayers. During a battle, the general’s horse was killed and I gave him my horse. He escaped, but I was caught by the government troops who imprisoned me in the sacristy of the local church. Here, I was tortured. On my last day, I was dragged to the cemetery. Once at the cemetery I was stabbed to death by the soldiers.
